4. Trek with a Reputed Operator
High altitudes offer adventure but also come with associated risks and dangers. You must choose your trekking operator wisely and research their safety standards.
Accidents can occur in the mountains due to harsh weather conditions, but if the team is capable, they will ensure your safety. Your trekking operator should have certain safety arrangements in place. For example, the trekker-to-guide ratio: do they have enough guides to take care of everyone? You should also check for medical kits, emergency oxygen cylinders, and a backend team to handle evacuation while the guides continue trekking with the group.
You should never ignore these aspects, as accidents in the mountains can range from minor sprains to life-threatening situations.
5. Layering
While it’s necessary to carry the right clothing, it’s even more important to understand the concept of layering and how it affects your journey.
